Bootcamp and Tutoring Program

Students in Burkina-Faso are required to pass a national exit exam in order to transition from primary school to middle school, from middle school to high school. Last year only 56% of students passed the entrance exam to middle school in Zigla. Botiminto intends to hire teachers to mentor and tutor sixth graders in order to increase the success rate and thus decrease the drop out rate. The teachers will hold tutoting boot camps after-school (afternoons and evenings) and on weekends one month before the national exams. The Organization also intends to organize a "buddy system" between lowerclassmen and upperclassmen (big brother/big sister). The upperclassmen present an invaluable academic resource to the younger students, many of whose parents and siblings did not attend school. In preparation for the CEP (the exit exam from primary school), the first bootcamp will launch in May 2017.

Annual Award Ceremony

Botiminto will organize an annual awards ceremony at the end of the academic year. During the ceremony, Botiminto will reward the best students of each class/grade and the best  student of the year, as chosen by the teachers. The students will receive various gifts such as books, bicycles, shoes, clothes, and electronics (computers or tablets, etc…). The first ceremony is planned for June 2017.

The Organization hopes to build by 2020 a new center comprised of a library, study rooms and a computer lab. This facility is intended to provide students with access to a quiet and suitable environment for their studies. Furthermore, students could use the computer center to develop computer literacy and progressively learn computer programming.

Latest News

From October 2017 to late January 2018, the academic schedule was disrupted by strikes and riots around the nation.  Botiminto was not able to conduct our Annual Bootcamp with the students of Zigla. Although disappointing, we are grateful and encouraged by the fact that the government is taking action towards improving the conditions of the educational system in Burkina faso. The 2018 National Exams have been administered and graded, the results are now in!

Zigla School A passing rate in 2017 was 95%. This year, despite the political unrest in the region 49 out of 57 (85%) students passed their exams and will be continuing their educational journey. Despite the setbacks, School A was able to rise and beat the odds. Zigla School B unfortunately was hard hit by the turmoil and finished the school year with a passing rate of 38.7%  compared to 87% from the previous year.
