Botiminto means for the sake of tomorrow in Bissa, the language spoken in Zigla-Koulpélé, a small village in Burkina-Faso. Botiminto aims to motivate and incentivize students, especially those in primary, elementary and high school, to see education as the most viable way out of poverty. Many students face obstacles in their daily lives that hinder their academic success, thus creating an environment for them to prosper and motivating them to succeed would be invaluable.
Initially, the Organization will focus its operations in the province of Boulgou and the village of Zigla-Koulpélé. However, the long-term goal is to extend those operations and activities to reach more localities in Burkina-Faso and potentially even abroad. Zigla-Koulpélé is a small community of about 5000 people situated in the Boulgou province of Burkina Faso. As with most communities in the Boulgou province, the inhabitants of Zigla-Koulpele are part of the Bissa ethnic group. Members of the community are farmers who primarily grow peanuts, millet and corn and raise sheeps, goats and poultry.
Zigla Koulpélé has two primary schools each with more than 500 students and a middle school with more than 200 students. After middle school, students must commute seven kilometers to Garango to attend high school.
Why Zigla-Koulpélé? Samir calls Zigla his village. His father grew up in Zigla and Samir himself spent his summers there, during which time, he used to help herd the cows, sheeps and goats of his uncle, the village-chief. He cares deeply for this community, especially for the kids who grow up there and would love nothing more than to see them become successful and productive members of society.
